Twisty Baby™ Black Locust—also known as the Lace Lady Locust (Robinia pseudoacacia 'Lace Lady')—is a unique, compact deciduous ornamental tree famous for its zigzag, contorted branches and curled dark green leaves.
Size: Grows slowly to about 8–15 feet tall and wide, making it ideal for small yards or large containers.
Appearance: Features a wild, twisted branch structure that provides great winter interest, plus dark green summer foliage turning muted yellow in fall.
Flowers: Occasionally produces fragrant, hanging white spring blossoms that smell like grape, though this cultivar blooms much less than standard black locusts.
Sunlight: Thrives best in full sun (6+ hours daily).
Soil: Highly adaptable to various soils (clay, loam, or sand) and tolerates poor, dry soils once established, provided the site has good drainage.
Hardiness: Hardy across USDA Zones 4 through 9.
Maintenance: Low maintenance, but you should prune away any accidental straight-growing branches to maintain the contorted habit.
