The Bloomerang Dark Purple Lilac (Syringa × 'SMSJBP7') is a compact, reblooming deciduous shrub known for producing deep purple-lilac fragrant flowers from spring all the way through frost.
- Reblooming Habit: Explodes with a heavy flush of blooms in mid-to-late spring, takes a short rest, and then reblooms continuously from mid-summer until the first hard frost.
- Appearance: Features striking dark purple buds that open to fragrant purple-lilac flowers on a neat, rounded, mounded shape.
- Resistances: Highly resistant to common lilac diseases (like powdery mildew) and tends to be ignored by deer and rabbits.
- Wildlife: Attracts butterflies, hummingbirds, and other beneficial pollinators.
Care & Maintenance
- Pruning: Prune immediately after the heavy spring flush finishes if shaping is required, as it blooms on old and new wood. Avoid late-summer pruning, which can cut off upcoming flower buds.
- Deadheading: Snipping off spent spring bloom spikes is optional but can clean up the plant's appearance and encourage a heavier summer flush.
- Watering: Provide regular water during the first growing season to establish a deep root system; mature plants tolerate average moisture well.
