The Daring Deception Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Daring Deception') is a highly popular, award-winning tetraploid perennial perennial celebrated for its striking color contrast and exceptional reblooming performance. Bred by Salter in 1994, this easy-to-grow plant produces heavy flushes of flowers from early summer well into fall.
- Distinctive Blooms: Features large 5 to 5.5-inch flowers that are dusty cream-pink or pale lavender-pink.
- Bold Eyezone: Accented by a massive, deep black-purple eyezone that covers nearly half the flower surface.
- Ruffled Edges: The petals overlap and are framed by a matching ruffled purple "pie-crust" or picotee edge above a bright green throat.
- Prolific Rebloomer: It is a diurnal, "super-blooming" variety that can produce hundreds of flowers on a mature plant throughout the extended season.
- Size: Reaches a mature height of 20–24 inches with a similar spread of 18–24 inches.
- Hardiness: Highly adaptable and hardy across USDA Zones 3–9.
- Foliage: Semi-evergreen, grass-like dark green leaves remain attractively season.
- Sun & Soil: Thrives best in full sun to partial shade. It adapts easily to dry, moist, clay, sandy, or poor soils as long as it has decent drainage.
- Tolerances: Noted for its rugged resilience, it tolerates drought, heat, urban pollution, winter road salt, and is even resistant to Black Walnut tree toxicity (juglone).
- Attracts: Highly attractive to beneficial pollinators, including bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.
- Resists: Generally avoided by rabbits.
- Toxicity: Toxic to cats (as with all true lilies and daylilies), but completely non-toxic to dogs, horses, and humans.
