- Mature Height: 20 to 30 feet tall
- Mature Width: 15 to 20 feet wide (with an upright, rounded, or spreading crown)
- Hardiness Zones: USDA Zones 2 through 10 (very cold-hardy and winter-tolerant)

Foliage, Flowers, and Fruit
- Spring Foliage & Blooms: Leaves emerge as bright/fresh green in spring, accompanied by hanging clusters (racemes) of fragrant white flowers that attract pollinators.
- Summer Foliage: Leaves transition into a rich maroon, dark purple, or regal bronze-red by mid-to-late summer.
- Fall Foliage: Shifts into bright red, orange, or reddish-purple before dropping.
- Fruit & Wildlife: Produces small, edible reddish-purple fruits in summer that are heavily utilized by birds and wildlife.
- Safety Note: While the fleshy pulp of the cherry can be cooked and processed into jams, jellies, syrups, and wines, the raw fruit, stems, and seeds/pits contain natural cyanogenic glycosides (poisonous/astringent if consumed raw).
Care & Cultivation
- Sunlight: Prefers full sun to partial shade.
- Soil & Water: Adaptable to most well-drained soils; drought-tolerant and wind-resistant once established.
- Maintenance: Can be grown as a single-trunk small tree or multi-trunk shrub. It does produce root suckers that should be pruned or removed to prevent unwanted spreading.
