Weeping Norway Spruce (Picea abies 'Pendula') is a dramatic, cascading evergreen with distinct drooping branches that form a unique, fountain-like focal point in landscapes.
Height: Highly variable (typically 6 to 15 feet); height is usually determined by how high the young tree is staked and trained, though it can sprawl wide or climb higher with support.
Spread: 6 to 10 feet wide as branches pool and cascade outward at the base.
Foliage: Dense, dark green needles that provide year-round color and interest.
Hardiness: Thrives in USDA Zones 3 through 8 and withstands freezing winter temperatures down to -30°F or lower.
Sunlight: Requires full sun to partial shade (best performance in a sunny spot).
Soil: Prefers slightly acidic, well-drained soil, but is highly adaptable to most soil types once established. Avoid consistently wet or soggy locations.
Watering: Provide deep, regular watering during the first few growing seasons to establish a strong root system, then reduce frequency to moderate drought tolerance.
Resilience: Highly resistant to deer, pests, and urban pollution.
